Igityan: EEU membership violates Armenia’s agreements with other countries

The member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) have not yet clarified their economic relations, and they themselves do not know what developments can be expected, the former member of the board of the Armenian All-National Movement (HHSh) Party Hovhannes Igityan said at a press conference today.

“It is evident that Armenia – as a country which is not a founding member of the EEU - will be in the worst position. The EEU does not commit countries to anything, and each country has its tasks and goals,” Igityan noted expressing an opinion that anyway, a growth of prices is expected in Armenia following its entry into EEU.

“By joining that organization, Armenia violates its agreements with other countries,” Igityan said.

Besides, he expressed concern over other challenges facing Armenia. According to him, it is not ruled out that the sanctions imposed on Russia will apply to Armenia as well, and even government members do not conceal it.

“Everyone, including government members who try to comment on Armenia’s membership in EEU from a positive point of view, says that many problems and challenges have not been overcome so far,” H. Igityan said.

As regards the issue of setting up a customs point on the border of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, H. Igityan noted that he is indifferent to it. “As a citizen and political scientist, I consider any point in relations of Armenia and Artsakh to be formal,” he added.
