Iskandaryan: Entry into EEU will not restrict press freedom in Armenia
Armenia’s entry into the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will not restrict freedom of the press in the country, Director of the Caucasus Institute, political scientist Alexander Iskandaryan told Aysor.am.
“Armenia’s entry into the EEU is economic cooperation. The EEU is an economic organization. There is no political element in the 160-page document,” he noted.
In his words, even if the document is considered from a political point of view, it does not pose a threat.
“This document does not contain political issues, that is, clauses concerning Armenia’s position on relations with the West. These issues are mostly related to military-political cooperation. There is no word about freedom of the press,” Iskandaryan said, noting that Armenia chose that path for its economic development and not for restricting freedom of the press.
