Ter-Petrosyan discusses Armenia’s membership of EEU during trio’s rally
In the foreseeable future Armenia will carry out activities within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), the leader of Armenian National Congress (HAK), first Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan said today at the joint rally of three parliamentary forces in Liberty Square of Yerevan.
We would remind you that the agreement on Armenia’s accession to EEU was signed on October 10 - the same day when the trio of non-coalition forces staged their first joint rally in Liberty Square.
According to Levon Ter-Petrosyan, many accused him of not discussing the issue of Armenia’s membership in EEU during the first rally. He explained that he never expresses hasty opinions, while the agreement on EEU was signed several hours before that rally.
The first president of Armenia did not share the opinion that Armenia will lose its sovereignty by becoming a member of the EEU. He noted that all states partially lose their sovereignty when they join an organization.
“If Armenia signed an agreement with the EU, it would also lose part of its sovereignty, perhaps even to a greater extent than in case of EEU,” Ter-Petrosyan said.
He considered it normal that Russia may have the role of a dictating country in EEU because “in all strictures, someone is a dictating side”.
As regards further actions of the trio, Levon Ter-Petrosyan refused to give details, saying that they “are not going to hand their tactical steps to Serzh Sargsyan on a plate”.
In conclusion, the leader of HAK called on those who gathered in Liberty Square to arm themselves with patience and take everything easy.
