Haykakan Zhamanak: NSS and Armenian police to be merged

It is rumored that the police system of Armenia will be divided into two parts. One part will be subordinate to Ministry of Territorial Administration, the other part will be merged with the National Security Service (NSS) and become a new ministry, ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ says.

“The term of NSS director Gorik Hakobyan will end in February 2016. He was to resign in 2011 when he turned 65, but Serzh Sargsyan decided to extend his term for 5 years. Our sources say that by his 70th birthday, NSS and part of the Armenian police will be merged and Gorik Hakobyan will retire. NSS employees are said to be displeased with this option and they hope to make Serzh Sargsyan change his mind,” the paper writes.
