Armenia’s PM, Russia’s President to study the gas price formation mechanism

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan briefed to the Russian President Vladimir Putin on the situation created over gas tariff in Armenia.

“I have told him that in reality not Armenia gets the Russian gas for 150$ but Gazprom-Armenia company. We agreed to study the whole mechanism of price formation and the contract base. This information was new for Russian president,” Pashinyan said, adding that he told Putin that Armenian people pay rather high tariff as compared with other CIS countries.

“Putin was quite surprised and said he ordered to ensure low gas tariff for Armenian people,” Pashinyan noted. Putin even remembered that he ordered it after visiting Gyumri and seeing the hard social situation of the people there.

“I have told him that unfortunately his decision did not serve its purpose. During the conversation we decided to study the scheme of price formation and try to understand what may be done,” Pashinyan said.
