Lake Sevan’s level raises by 3 cm as compared with the same span of the past year: Minister

Level of Lake Sevan has raised by 3 cm as compared with the same span of the past year, Minister of Nature Protection Erik Grigoryan stated today at the hearing on Sevan Lake issues.

“The level of Sevan Lake has raised by 3 cm but there is an approved program regarding the water volume which envisages raise up to 1903 meters. The raise of the level is also agreed with natural phenomena,” he stressed.

Speaking about seaweeds in the lake, the minister said they have covered the whole lake while there was no such thing during the recent years.

“The first reason is hot weather, followed by the lack of precipitations, wastewaters falling to the lake. The recent monitoring showed the noticeable increase of phosphorus which is a negative phenomenon,” the minister said.

Grigoryan also stressed that the ministry is carrying out noticeable work to restore the fish types in the lake.
