Both Samvel Karapetyan and Ruben Vardanyan are imprisoned solely for political reasons – Gohar Meloyan

“Samvel Karapetyan is one of those Armenians who has never broken his ties with our state and our people. There have been only two individuals of such stature – Ruben Vardanyan and Samvel Karapetyan. Today, Ruben Vardanyan is being held captive in Baku, while Samvel Karapetyan is held captive in Armenia,” constitutional law expert Gohar Meloyan said in an interview with 168.am.

According to her, both Samvel Karapetyan and Ruben Vardanyan are currently imprisoned purely for political reasons.

“Although they could have chosen to live comfortably in other countries, they are now deprived of their freedom for the sake of the Armenian people, Armenian statehood, and the Armenian Apostolic Church. The internationally recognized Forbes list includes only two Armenian billionaires who were born and educated in Armenia – Samvel Karapetyan and Ruben Vardanyan. There is simply no third example,” Meloyan noted.
