We see the opposition unity as joint work based on ideas and convictions – Kristine Vardanyan

“The call by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, an MP from the ‘Armenia’ faction, for uniting the opposition is in progress; work in that direction is already underway. We plan to summarize what has been done in the near future, and I believe Ishkhan Saghatelyan will make a statement on the format,” Kristine Vardanyan, an MP from the same faction, told Aysor.am.

According to her, Saghatelyan’s pre-election speech should not be interpreted as a call for opposition consolidation, but rather as a reference to ongoing planned work.

“We have noted that unity among opposition forces is necessary. However, given the current situation, if not everyone can stand on the same line, there can at least be shared principles around which, through consensus, we can work and put into practice the ideas we envision. In that speech, six principles were outlined, and we believe full cooperation is possible around them,” the ARF-D representative stressed.

She noted that the call is not about artificial unification. “We see unity as joint work based on shared ideas and convictions. Today, the protection of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the defense of political prisoners and resisting the government’s propaganda narratives have also become relevant principles. Discussions in this direction are ongoing, and I am sure they will be summarized in due course,” Vardanyan added.

On November 26, during parliamentary hearings on political prisoners, Ishkhan Saghatelyan called on opposition forces to unite and announced that consultations with various opposition forces would begin next week.
