If being an agent is compromising, what place does an agent have in Armenia’s highest power? Vanetsyan

Artur Vanetsyan, leader of the Homeland Party and former director of the National Security Service, commented on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that “Bishop Yezras is a KGB agent – isn’t that a bigger compromising fact?”

Speaking at a 24News’ program, Vanetsyan stated that he would refrain from naming individuals due to professional ethics, but noted that if being an agent is considered compromising evidence, then there is a person standing next to Nikol Pashinyan who has publicly admitted to having been an agent of the security services. When asked whether he was referring to Ararat Mirzoyan, Vanetsyan responded: “If this is compromising material, what business does that person have in the highest echelons of power of the Republic of Armenia?”

Responding to the remark that Ararat Mirzoyan was allegedly an agent of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, whereas Bishop Yezras was an agent of the KGB, Vanetsyan said that no evidence has been presented to support such claims. “Tomorrow they might accuse you or me of working for the special services of Mozambique,” he said.

He emphasized that the KGB ceased to exist after 1991, adding that if there is information from a successor agency indicating that someone is cooperating with a foreign intelligence service – regardless of the country – that person should be detained and investigated. “If there is no such information, then these are merely baseless statements. A leader should understand that he is no longer a representative of the yellow press,” Vanetsyan stressed.

According to Vanetsyan, Pashinyan’s actions are aimed at one objective: keeping the public in a constant state of distraction.
