The opposition’s situation is sad but not hopeless: Vanetsyan

The situation of the collective opposition is sad, but it is not hopeless. This was stated by Artur Vanetsyan, leader of the Homeland Party and former director of the National Security Service, during the 24News program “Track with Narek Galstyan.”

“With the right positioning, effective work, and the formation of alliances, I am confident that a change of power is possible. Naturally, Nikol Pashinyan will do everything to prevent such alliances and organized work, but that is his job,” he said. According to Artur Vanetsyan, Pashinyan performs this job “with top marks.” “By disregarding all sanctities and intruding into the personal sphere, which is unacceptable to me, he provokes the opposition in various ways.”

The former NSS director noted that today the political agenda is dictated by Pashinyan. “Today he says, ‘We are going to the church,’ and everyone rushes to defend the church. Tomorrow he will say, ‘We are going to seize the Matenadaran,’ and everyone will rush to protect it. As a result, Pashinyan manages to solve his own problems and retain his electorate,” Vanetsyan said.

According to Vanetsyan, genuine opposition forces cannot have irreconcilable differences when it comes to the ultimate objective provided they are honest about that objective.

“My ultimate goal is to get rid of these authorities, regardless of whether I, you, or anyone else becomes prime minister. My goal is not to enter the National Assembly or to have a faction. It is to remove these authorities. And I ask everyone to be honest with themselves – are they fighting for this goal, or merely to remain within the political field?” he stated.

Vanetsyan added that there are ideas, but he prefers not to disclose them at this stage.

“The people must see hope and feel that there is strength worth moving forward with,” he concluded.
