EU “support” is direct interference in Armenia’s domestic politics; opposition must take a tough stance – Hayk Nahapetyan

The statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas that Armenia has requested EU support to counter foreign interference ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 2026 does not reflect reality, according to political analyst Hayk Nahapetyan.

In his view, it was not the Armenian authorities who initiated the request. Rather, EU officials themselves conveyed to Armenia that “this is how it should be done.” Nahapetyan believes that the objective is to replicate in Armenia the scenario seen during the recent elections in Moldova, while presenting the process as if it were initiated by the Armenian side. “This is a direct interference in Armenia’s domestic political life,” he said in an interview with Aysor.am.

Nahapetyan believes that the European Union is one of the globalist institutions, alongside NATO, the US Federal Reserve, the World Health Organization, and the World Trade Organization. According to him, these are supranational structures that function as instruments of globalist influence.

The political analyst said that control over this system is currently concentrated in the hands of Great Britain, and that in the past a similar role was played by the US Democratic Party. In countries where governments formed with the support of globalists are in power, the key issue becomes maintaining those governments.

“Naturally, they need Nikol Pashinyan, appointed by Britain, to remain in power in Armenia,” Nahapetyan stated, adding that mechanisms are already being deployed to reproduce the Moldovan scenario in Armenia.

Turning to domestic political developments, he stressed that the Armenian opposition faces concrete tasks and cannot limit itself to statements alone. “We need to organize round-the-clock pickets in front of the EU building, and the opposition must demonstrate the toughest possible stance,” he emphasized.

Nahapetyan also noted that the European Union is currently under pressure from both the United States and Russia. In this context, he raised the question of whether it might be in the interests of those countries for the Armenian opposition to take a firm stand against supranational structures which, in his view, are hindering efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

“In this sense, the US and Russia can be viewed as allied forces of the Armenian opposition,” he concluded.
