“Together with our partners, we have today filed cassation appeals against the December 11 decision of the Court of Appeals, which rejected both our appeals and those filed by the prosecutor’s office,” wrote Aram Vardevanyan, a member of Samvel Karapetyan’s defense team.

“Our assessment of the absurd actions of the Court of Cassation is unequivocal: in the case of Samvel Karapetyan, it does not function as a mechanism for the protection of rights at all. Moreover, we have submitted a report containing specific facts to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the judges of the relevant panel of the Anti-Corruption Chamber of the Court of Cassation,” Vardevanyan stated.

A reminder: on November 18, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court extended Samvel Karapetyan’s detention for an additional two months, a decision the defense considers manifestly unlawful. The extension was justified by references to the “intensive nature of the case” and investigators’ assurances about the need to carry out further actions.

“In reality, to this day there has been no such intensity and no investigative actions involving Samvel Karapetyan, despite our repeated demands. What exists instead is an illegal, politically motivated, persecution-like detention that has now lasted more than six months,” Vardevanyan emphasized.
