Economist Hrayr Kamendatyan believes that the import of Azerbaijani gasoline to Armenia should be viewed neither as an economic nor as a political issue, but rather as a form of “barter.”

“Liquid fuel was exchanged for the blood of Armenian citizens. More than 4,000 citizens died during military operations against the Azerbaijani army. After that, the Azerbaijani side carried out a sabotage operation in Jermuk, during which around 220 Armenian servicemen were killed,” Kamendatyan said in an interview with Aysor.am, expressing his assessment of the situation.

He also does not consider the import of Azerbaijani gasoline to be an element of diversification. According to Kamendatyan, the Armenian market is not of economic interest to Azerbaijan, and what is taking place should instead be understood in the context of broader geopolitical processes.
