Threat against the Catholicos in Garni draws law enforcement attention
An incident occurred yesterday in Garni following a mass attended by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. During the event, a journalist from a pro-government media outlet asked a local resident, “What would have to happen for Ktrich Nersisyan to leave?” The resident replied: “They should hit him with a stone on his head; they should kill him.”
In response to an inquiry by Aysor.am, the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia stated that the remark is currently under review to determine whether it contains elements of a criminal offense.
Earlier, the Ishkhanutyun news agency reported that the author of the statement is a Garni resident, Edward Stepanyan, known in the community by the nickname “Edo of Jndo.” According to the report, Stepanyan is employed by the Garni Municipality in the drinking water service department.
