Samvel Karapetyan denied permission to visit his father’s grave

Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the “Our Way” Democratic Movement, was denied permission to visit his father’s grave, his lawyer Aram Vardevanyan reported.

“On December 30, 2025, the clearly unlawful custodial detention imposed on Samvel Karapetyan since June 18 was replaced with house arrest, accompanied by additional restrictions.

As is well known, in the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, the Day of Remembrance of the Dead follows the Feast of Christmas and Epiphany each January. Like any faithful member of the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church, it was of great importance to Samvel Karapetyan to have the opportunity to visit his father’s grave on this day and to mourn humanely alongside his close relatives. We submitted a formal request on this matter to both the investigator and the prosecutor. Today, it became known that this request was denied.

The most basic sense of humanity is upheld even in conditions of war, yet the political persecution of Samvel Karapetyan appears to recognize no boundaries,” he stated.
