We now have a completely different country than we had in 2018: Nikol Pashinyan

The government has approved the Doctrine of Economic and Institutional Transformation of Armenia.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the doctrine is presented as a comprehensive development guideline aimed at reviewing and strengthening the country’s economic structure and state institutions.

He noted that the government raised its ambitions over the past year and increased the forecast for budget revenues.

“We collected slightly less than expected, but more than originally planned. In other words, the budget was overfulfilled,” Pashinyan said. He added that since the 2018 revolution, Armenia’s economy has grown by more than 50 percent.

“We now have a completely different economy and a completely different country than we had in 2018,” Pashinyan emphasized.

According to him, Armenia today has not only a democratic political system, but also a democratic economic system.

“On the one hand, the government did not intervene where it should not have intervened; on the other hand, it intervened where it should have intervened,” he said. In his words, in Armenia a person has been elevated from an object to a subject.

“In Armenia, absolutely everything is decided by the person, the citizen. An Armenian citizen can carry out a revolution at any time they wish, because in 2018 we demonstrated that if a citizen wants to make a revolution, there is simply no force that can stop it,” Pashinyan stated.

He also noted that Armenia’s doctrine of economic and institutional transformation is shaped by the new regional and foreign policy environment emerging around the country.

“In peacetime, the economy must also be transformed, and this is happening right before our eyes today,” he said.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, ensuring the economic development of the state is a state interest.
