It later turned out to be a delusion: Pashinyan explains why Ruben Vardanyan and Samvel Karapetyan were “philanthropists,” but are no longer

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, responding to a journalist’s question about his well-known speech in Artsakh – where he stated that if Armenian capital has no homeland, then why Ruben Vardanyan and Samvel Karapetyan invested millions of dollars in the homeland and called for applause for benefactors, but no longer does so – said:

“I said all that because I believed that political transformations and democracy had taken place in Armenia, and that the potential of the Diaspora could be united around national goals.”

He added that later it became clear this perception was mistaken.

“Later it turned out that all of that was a fallacy. Where there is economic interest, there will be investment; where there is no economic interest, there will be none,” Pashinyan said.

According to him, he got convinced in this after studying an analysis of how much money was collected and how much investment was made in the Republic of Armenia within the framework of cooperation with the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund between 1992 and 2018.
