The organic connection between the people and the legal system must be established, and citizens must recognize the de facto legitimacy of the legal system, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated during a panel discussion titled “Practical or Procedural Obstacles to Maintaining Reasonable Timelines for the Examination of Judicial Cases.”

“In my opinion, we have resolved the issue of the government’s legitimacy, but we have not resolved the issue of the legal system’s legitimacy. The legitimacy of the government is not in question because the election results are not disputed. However, the election through which the legal system was established – the referendum – has always had, and continues to have, disputed results. Until that doubt is removed, the legitimacy of the legal system will destroy us like a virus. We will never achieve justice or fairness,” Pashinyan said.

He added that he personally feels a lack of justice and fairness.

“My conclusion is that we have a problem with the legitimacy of law and order. The red light on our streets has a legitimacy problem, because it is unclear who decided that the red light should function in this way,” Pashinyan stated.
