We are concerned that the US may use TRIPP within the framework of its security policy – Iranian Ambassador to Armenia

“Our position is very clear: we have told our Armenian partners that we trust them, but we are dealing with the United States, whose actions against Iran are well known,” Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Khalil Shirgholami said during a press conference, referring to the joint statement on the publication of the Armenia-US Implementation Framework for the TRIPP project.

According to the ambassador, Armenia is a friendly country, and there is a high level of trust between the leaders of the two nations. Shirgholami emphasized that Iran welcomes any positive step toward lifting the blockade and supporting Armenia’s development.

“Within the framework of de-blockade, Armenia can play an important role in opening north-south and east-west transport corridors. The same North-South corridor could have two branches: one from the Persian Gulf and Oman to Russia, connecting to India, and another from Oman to the Black Sea,” he said, stressing that Iran does not trust the United States.

The Iranian ambassador noted that they are concerned the U.S. may use TRIPP as part of its security policy and have conveyed these concerns to their Armenian counterparts:

“They have assured us that Armenia will never become a source of threat to Iran. We have agreed that our meetings and communication will be continuous and periodic to monitor the scope of this project.”

The ambassador expressed hope that Tehran’s concerns would be considered and addressed.
