JD Vance discusses prisoner releases in Baku

U.S. Vice President JD Vance addressed the issue of prisoner releases during his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, the vice president’s press secretary said.

“President Aliyev and Vice President Vance discussed the next steps in President Trump’s initiative to bring peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. They focused on trade and prosperity, technology, and diplomatic ties, and reviewed upcoming steps, including the signing of agreements and authorizations related to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), as well as confidence-building measures such as prisoner releases, American investment, and regional economic integration,” the spokesperson said.

The U.S. side did not specify how the Azerbaijani side responded or whether any concrete agreements were reached on the matter.

Prior to departing from Yerevan, JD Vance had stated that he intended to raise the issue of Armenian captives in Baku.
