The shortest route from Azerbaijan to Turkey passes through Armenia: Pashinyan (Video)
In the context of lifting the blockade, virtually no road or railway is excluded from discussions on opening or restoring transport links, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at the National Assembly.
“Speaking about the Ijevan section of the railway, we should not forget that, unfortunately, for more than 30 years there has been a landslide in the Haghartsin section, which has effectively disrupted railway operations there. This issue is solvable, depending on what cargo flows are expected. If the railway demonstrates viable economic prospects, it may well be restored,” Pashinyan stated.
He noted that studies indicate the shortest route from Azerbaijan to Turkey runs through the railway connecting Ijevan with Azerbaijan.
“If we link the Ijevan-Hrazdan railway branch with the Vanadzor-Gyumri railway branch, it will form the shortest route from Azerbaijan to Turkey,” he said.
Pashinyan also emphasized that Armenian businesses should take into account that the railway route for exports through Azerbaijan is open.
