“We couldn’t have imagined it in our worst dreams: the NSS is giving an official response to a media outlet about USSR KGB agents” – Vanetsyan

“I have repeatedly stated that I will never disclose information that became known to me during my service,” said Artur Vanetsyan, leader of the Homeland Party, in an interview with Hraparak. He was responding to a question about whether the public expects him to reveal any of the information he possesses, either from previous elections or up to now.

Asked whether the current authorities would behave similarly, Vanetsyan replied: “Let me put it this way: the difference between me and these authorities is that, not being in power, I feel a greater responsibility toward the state, statehood, and state institutions than they do. They can publish any secret at any time.”

According to Vanetsyan, the authorities are capable of generating entirely false information without considering the consequences.

“The most alarming situation is when they start making information specifically related to the National Security Service public. We witnessed something we could not have imagined in our worst dreams: the NSS issued an official response to a media outlet regarding how someone allegedly was an agent of the KGB of the USSR. Even we, as former NSS employees, could not have imagined that such information could come out of that building.

In any case, I am not commenting on whether the document in question is authentic or fabricated. I am not entering that debate. What I am emphasizing is that the NSS officially responded to a media inquiry – when, in general, the formulation of that question was improper, and providing such an answer is, in itself, a violation of the law,” he added.
