No risk of electricity shortage despite extended NPP outage – PSRC Chairman

There is no risk of an electricity deficit in Armenia despite the nuclear power plant being offline for three months longer than planned, said Mesrop Mesropyan, Chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC), during a briefing with reporters.

“That gap is being covered by increased generation at other power plants, so I can assure you that we have no such concerns,” he noted.

Mesropyan added that Armenia’s power system can at any time compensate for the shutdown of one facility by bringing reserve or idle plants back online.

“It is another matter what tariff implications this may have,” he emphasized.
