We have no plans or concerns regarding the presence of the Russian military base: Pashinyan (Video)

We do not have any plans, and we have no concerns regarding the presence of the Russian military base, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said while answering questions at the Polish Institute of International Relations, referring to Russia’s military presence in Armenia.

“We are close partners with Russia and have very close economic and political ties,” he noted.

Pashinyan added that until 2024 most of Armenia’s border checkpoints were under the control of, or hosted, Russian border guards, whereas today all checkpoints are controlled by the Border Guard Troops of the Republic of Armenia.

He noted that Armenia has frozen its membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization, a decision linked to the events of 2020. “Armenia was disappointed with the CSTO, because despite having a legal obligation, it did not adequately respond to the security challenges facing Armenia,” he said.

At the same time, Pashinyan stated that Armenia-Russia relations are in a phase of transformation. “Currently, new relations are being formed with Russia. We are determined and would like to develop relations with Russia,” he said.

The prime minister also emphasized the role of Russia and President Vladimir Putin in the November 9, 2020 ceasefire, which he described as decisive in establishing a ceasefire.

“Of course, after that there were various interpretations of the signed document. It turned into a declaration that we adopted with Azerbaijan in Washington,” he added.
