If the state is able to interfere in the life of the church, there are no remaining safeguards preventing from crossing the red lines – Tigran Abrahamyan (Video)

Parliamentary hearings on the “Current State of State–National Church Relations,” initiated by the NA “I Have Honor” faction, are underway in the National Assembly.

Presenting the issue, faction secretary Tigran Abrahamyan stated that if the state is able to interfere in the internal life of the church and detain clergy, then there are no remaining safeguards preventing it from crossing red lines, which could lead to irreversible consequences.

It should be noted that the “I Have Honor” faction has introduced a draft statement titled “Regarding the Current State of State-National Church Relations,” which has already been discussed at a session of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs. 

Deputy Chair of the Committee Arusyak Julhakyan noted that faction leader Hayk Mamijanyan had informed that parliamentary hearings would be held at the faction’s initiative, and that the text of the National Assembly statement may be revised based on the outcome of these discussions.
