“This is absurd, it is political persecution,” Samvel Karapetyan’s legal team has filed a petition

The legal team of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the “Strong Armenia” party, has submitted an application to Judge Vahe Dolmazyan of the Anti-Corruption Court, requesting that the review of Karapetyan’s preventive measure be prioritized.

“On April 15, 2026, at 10:30, we will have a court hearing on the obviously illegal, political criminal prosecution of Samvel Karapetyan,” lawyer Aram Vardevanyan told reporters.

He added that Karapetyan’s detention should be lifted as soon as possible.

“This is absurd, this is political persecution, and it is also legally bankrupt. In other words, this case is like water – you can drink it, it is associated with life – but this case is a chain of illegalities,” he said.

Lawyer Liana Gasparyan stated that the proceedings are not a criminal case, but rather an act of revenge and fear on the part of the head of the judiciary.
