Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan: “To hear it from the prosecution was a surprise”: Prosecutor calls Archbishop Arshak influential (video)
The prosecutor in the case of Archbishop Arshak Khachatryan, representing the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, requested that detention be applied as a preventive measure.
According to the prosecutor, the Archbishop is an influential figure, and his freedom could pose risks of influencing witnesses or distorting their testimonies.
The Archbishop noted that he was touched by the prosecutor’s characterization of him as an authoritative figure.
“Of course, I have heard such assessments from others, but to hear it from the prosecution was a big surprise and very pleasant. I am grateful,” he said.
He acknowledged that he does hold a certain level of authority due to his service.
At the same time, he remarked that the only measure that could fully neutralize such influence would be the death penalty, adding, “As if the Holy Book would say, ‘Your efforts are in vain.’”
Judge Artur Adamyan ultimately rejected the prosecutor’s motion, and Archbishop Arshak was not detained.
