Many countries do not want Armenia to be sovereign – Civil Contract member on tensions in Armenian-Russian relations

Civil Contract member Khachatur Sukiasyan stated that Armenian businessmen do not face systemic problems in Russia.

“Problems have accumulated over the past 30 years. They are often used as political tools by various countries, especially major powers,” he said in a conversation with reporters.

According to Sukiasyan, Armenia also possesses its own instruments, which it employs when necessary.

He expressed the view that ongoing global developments will ultimately lead to more balanced and appropriate decisions.

Addressing the deterioration of Armenian-Russian relations, Sukiasyan linked it to Armenia’s pursuit of greater sovereignty.

“When Armenia seeks to strengthen its sovereignty and make more independent decisions, these efforts begin to face resistance, because many countries do not want Armenia to be sovereign,” he noted.

The Civil Contract MP also stated that Russia has supplied gas to Armenia at relatively high prices, adding that gas pricing over the past two decades has varied significantly.
