We are not going to create tension in Armenia-Russia relations - Ararat Mirzoyan

It is no secret that Armenia and the European Union are moving closer to each other day by day, and there are all the opportunities for that. When you ask about the assessments made by other partners, particularly Russia, regarding this process, we are not going to ‘divorce’ with any partner,” Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in a conversation with journalists.

“Politics and diplomacy have never recognized such ‘divorces’ throughout history. We are not going to create tension in Armenia-Russia relations. We are partners connected by numerous ties, and we are ready to develop these mutually beneficial relations in an atmosphere of healthy discussion,” said Mirzoyan.

He noted that there are existing problems, adding that such issues exist throughout the world.

“We need to find constructive solutions to these problems,” Mirzoyan said.

He also stressed that Armenia does not need to be told by Russia that membership in the Eurasian Economic Union and membership in the European Union are incompatible.

“We will continue our rapprochement with the EU, and when the moment comes for us to decide whether to become a member of one group of countries or another, we will make that decision ourselves. It is not something that should be told to us from outside,” Mirzoyan said.
