When I say we can work with Belarus, the authorities call me an ‘oligarch’ and a ‘Belarusian spy’” – Gagik Tsarukyan

With the active mediation of Pakistan, peace between Armenia’s friend and neighbor, Iran, and our good partner, the United States, appears increasingly possible, which is of critical importance for Armenia, Gagik Tsarukyan wrote on Facebook.

“When I mention the name of Pakistan, among other countries, in the context of guaranteed peace, the authorities begin insulting me. Yesterday, after a long pause, French President Emmanuel Macron called Alexander Lukashenko to discuss improving relations and other important issues. When I say that we can and should work with Belarus, and that Armenia can derive significant benefits on many issues, the authorities label me an ‘oligarch’ and a ‘Belarusian spy.’

When I say that we need normal, respectful working relations with Russia’s political forces and influential circles to resolve our country’s issues and avoid senseless and harmful hostility, I am branded as pro-Russian.

Today, the whole world, beginning with the United States, seeks to normalize relations with Russia in order to ensure security and the well-being of their own people. Before our eyes, Armenia is entering into an economic confrontation with Russia, the consequences of which could be devastating. The greatest burden will fall on ordinary, hardworking citizens who build this country through their labor.

Finally, what do you want from this country and its people? After bringing so much war and loss, what further damage do you seek to inflict? Where do you intend to lead our country with your vision of the world? What dangers are you prepared to expose our people to for the sake of petty political gain?” Tsarukyan wrote.
