Armenia-EU joint working group to be established: new details from Pashinyan-von der Leyen phone conversation

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to addressing Armenia’s economic challenges and further developing bilateral cooperation.

Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting Armenia’s economic resilience and development programs. She informed that the EU is preparing an assistance package that includes immediate financial assistance of more than 50 million euros, as well as additional measures to expand export opportunities for Armenian products and facilitate trade.

The parties also discussed practical support programs for the agricultural and floriculture sectors, emphasizing the importance of expanding opportunities for Armenian goods in European markets.

The interlocutors highlighted the need to deepen business ties and ensure the consistent implementation of agreements reached at the Armenia-EU summit in Yerevan, as well as the advancement of the Armenia-EU strategic agenda. It was noted that EU support under the “Resilience and Growth” Plan has already contributed to the development of thousands of enterprises and the creation of new jobs in Armenia.

They also touched upon initiatives under the Armenia-EU Connectivity Partnership. Ursula von der Leyen reiterated the EU’s readiness to support infrastructure development and regional connectivity projects.

The parties agreed to establish a joint Armenia-EU working group to coordinate the implementation of ongoing programs and discuss new areas of cooperation.
