Turkey hopes Armenia will take “bolder steps towards peace” in post-election period

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the parliamentary elections held in Armenia on June 7.

Turkey expressed hope that “in the post-election period, Armenia will take bolder steps towards peace and settlement in the region.”

“Turkey will continue to contribute to regional stability and prosperity, as it has done so far, based on the common interests of the countries in the region,” the statement said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also commented, noting that important developments have taken place over the past four years.

“In our view, the main opportunity and goal facing the South Caucasus is the following: the stronger the foundation for peace, the stronger the results of connectivity projects will be, and the stronger the connectivity, the more firmly the social and economic foundation for peace will be formed. We are resolutely continuing our work to strengthen this cycle, which will serve the common interests of the entire region,” the minister stated.
