CEC satisfies petition to initiate criminal proceedings against Robert Kocharyan (Video)
The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has approved the Prosecutor General’s Office’s motion to initiate criminal proceedings against Robert Kocharyan. Lawyer Aram Orbelyan announced the decision to reporters.
“The charges concern events dating from 2004 to 2009 and include alleged abuse of official authority and money laundering,” Orbelyan said.
According to the lawyer, the CEC acted merely as an executor and did not fully understand the substance of the matter under consideration.
“We asked whether the commission would clarify the scope of the issues being discussed and explain what exactly was being examined within the framework of the proceedings. The response was that they do not discuss factual circumstances. This clearly demonstrates that the commission does not understand its role and function. It is simply expected to read out the text placed before it,” he stated.
Orbelyan stressed that the defense argued the accusations are unfounded, but the commission showed no interest in examining those arguments.
