Areni village marks Wine Festival

Today Armenian Areni village in southern Vayots Dzor province holds Wine Festival. From the early morning the roads are blocked for cars full bring guests and Areni-livers.

Aysor’s correspondent reports from Areni that the chief entertainment will be held at Central Square. Among the guests are Vayots Dzor Gov. Vardges Matevosyan and Deputy Minister of Economy Ara Petrosyan. In addition, Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan and Ukraine’s Minister for Industrial Affairs Vladimir Novitsky who paid a visit to Armenia to participate in Armenia-Ukraine Intergovernmental Commission on cooperation in economy are also expected in Areni village.

Head of Areni Village Zhirayr Yegiyan spoke at opening ceremony welcoming the guests.

“Areni village must maintain the honor of Armenian wine,” he said wishing farmers a good harvest, a nice weather, and lofty goals.

It’s worth mentioning that Oxford Expert Center agreed the vine branch found in one of Areni’s caves has date 6 thousand years BC while the most ancient Winery found in Areni grot is world’s most ancient center of winemaking.
