Serzh Sargsyan meets with CoE Secretary General

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, according to the presidential press service.

Welcoming the guest, S. Sargsyan said that he was glad to meet T. Jagland ahead of an event of importance to Armenia: Armenia will soon assume the chairmanship of the CoE Committee of Ministers. The president thanked the Council of Europe for persistent assistance with the process of reforms in Armenia.

The interlocutors discussed the priorities of Armenia’s chairmanship and the Action Plan, in particular, the events to be held in Strasbourg and Yerevan. Serzh Sargsyan stated about Armenia’s support for the reforms implemented on the initiative of the CoE Secretary General.

At the meeting the sides discussed important issues on the agenda of CoE and current challenges. They underlined the importance of the fight against intolerance and discrimination. Regional processes and solutions to the existing problems were also discussed.
