Kocharian advises Davutoglu to visit Armenian Genocide Memorial

“Instead of making provocative statements damaging the possible positive developments in the region ahead of the visit to Yerevan for participation in the BSEC meeting, it would be better to take the opportunity to visit the Memorial the Armenian Genocide Victims in Yerevan and pay tribute to the memory of the Genocide victims by observing a minute of silence,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharian said when commenting on the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s recent statements concerning regional problems.

In response to a question of the Armenpress news agency, S. Kocharian said that Turkey can contribute to the normalization of relations with Armenia by ratifying and implementing without preconditions the Armenian-Turkish protocols signed in Zurich in 2009.

“If Turkey seeks to speed up the process of establishing civilized relations between regional countries, it should recognize the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Turkey and open the Armenian-Turkish border it closed,” Shavarsh Kocharian said.
