18-year-old Davit Minasyan placed in two-month pre-trial detention
An 18-year-old school student, Davit Minasyan, who was involved in the incident with Nikol Pashinyan at St. Anna Church, has been placed in pre-trial detention for two months by a decision of Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan.
Speaking to journalists, defense attorney Armen Melkonyan stated that the legal team has not yet received the court’s reasoning for the detention.
“They consider it appropriate to detain a 12th-grade student, while a number of individuals accused of particularly serious crimes remain under administrative supervision. The judge took none of this into account,” Melkonyan said, adding that the decision will be appealed.
When asked by Aysor.am whether he believes the ruling was made independently by the judge or influenced by the Prime Minister, Melkonyan said:
“I will refrain from political evaluations; let the public draw its own conclusions.”
The lawyer also noted that the court’s decision effectively deprives Davit of the opportunity to complete his schooling.
“In two months, others will celebrate their last bell, but not Davit. On whose conscience is this?” he remarked.
It should be recalled that earlier, a preventive measure in the form of a ban on absence was imposed on brother Mikael Minasyan.
